The Touch – Lin Hong

The Touch is a story about family, mothers and grandfathers and loss. It is also a story about a different time and culture: China around the time of the Cultural Revolution.

I didn’t like how it jumped between past and present however: a lot of the time the links between the stories were weak, and it made the whole book more disjointed. In fact the whole of the “present day” story was not as compelling as the “past” story, and the book would have gained from more flesh on one story rather than jumping between the two.
