The Unbearable Lightness of Being is a philosophical novel. It follows two men, two women and a dog through their adult lives and life behind the Iron Curtain in Prague.
I loved this book, and without spoiling the ending, found it moving. Sometimes a book about how different people’s ideals and ambitions fail to mesh neatly is exactly what is needed.
In spite of the look at how a police state makes people and society act, there is rarely a focus on this until the end of the book, and even then the focus is more on relationships and love, which was somehow not what I was expecting but better.
